Animal Description:

The Vietnamese Funnel Web Spider is a large, aggressive spider very similar to the Sydney Funnel Web Spider. They are not at all recommended for beginners, as they are not only aggressive, but quite poisonous as well.

While the venom of the Vietnamese Funnel Web Spider has not been closely studied and it is unknown whether or not it can be deadly, it is well known that the venom is quite poisonous. Rare in captivity, only scientific professionals keep the Vietnamese Funnel Web Spider. They live in damp regions of the Vietnamese forests, unlike other poisonous spiders (i.e. Widows) that prefer dry surroundings. The name "Funnel Web Spider" derives from the web, which is funnel shaped and radiates from the burrow. This allows the spider to quickly attack any prey that approaches the web.

The Vietnamese Funnel Web Spider is larger than most other spiders. It can reach 4.5 to 5.5 inches in diameter.

Specific Care Information: Relative Care Ease: Uncertain

The Vietnamese Funnel Web Spider, as it originates in high temperature, high humidity regions of Vietnam, should be kept at around 80 degrees Fahrenheit and with 75 to 85% humidity. The humidity can be added with a wide, shallow water dish and frequent misting. They should be kept in a large tank, when mature, with at least four inches of substrate to burrow into.
