Animal Description:

Considered to be one of the most beautiful species of Tarantula, the Costa Rican Zebra tarantula is an affordable and fascinating spider that will enthrall both the tarantula enthusiast and the beginner.

If you're just starting to grow an interest in raising tarantulas or you are an old hand at spider care, the Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula is an affordable and relatively easily maintained spider. This spider is known to be slightly skittish but it is a suitable tarantula for a beginner. The Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula is a burrowing tarantula, one that will spend most of its time underground. It is also one of the fastest spiders of its kind; the Costa Rican Zebra can sprint from danger at the slightest noise and get away very easily, so it may get away from you if you are not careful. Still, the Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula is a gorgeous spider, one with many beautiful markings that will prove to be a wonderful addition to any spider enthusiast's menagerie.

From head to abdomen, the Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula is a beautiful specimen. It comes in two distinct coloring schemes, one found mostly in Costa Rica and the other found in parts of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The Costa Rican variety is mostly black with white stripes running down it's legs, the abdomen sporting a light dusting of orange. The underbelly will be a light orange as well. The Nicaraguan variety will be mostly brown with tan lines running down the legs, with the same orange color shown on the abdomen and underbelly. These color schemes are a great way of identifying where your Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula originated from.

The Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula lives in deep, humid rainforests of Costa Rica, where it thrives in deeply dug burrows far beneath the canopy of the jungle. They are also known as Zebra Tarantula, Stripe Knee Tarantula, and Stripe Kneed Tarantula. This spider can be found mostly in Costa Rica, although it has been found in different color schemes in both Nicaragua and parts of Guatemala. Keeping this spider as a pet may require the delicate, precise touch of an expert and not the unsure hands of a beginner, but with the right care and thought, it can be an excellent species to begin with. The price is also a deciding factor in the appeal of this particular breed. Fairly common, this tarantula can be found in pet shops across the country and is usually inexpensive compared to many other species of Tarantula.
