Animal Description:  

One of the most sought-after Tarantulas, the beautiful Brazilian Whiteknee Tarantula is considered among enthusiasts to be the quintessential Tarantula for display purposes.

The Brazilian Whiteknee Tarantula, or Brazilian Giant White Knee Tarantula, because of its price and relatively aggressive temperament, may not be suitable for beginners. It should be noted that while this species is classified as relatively aggressive they are often able to be handled, but have a potential for aggression. This is in stark contrast so some other species, such as the Usambara, which will often go out of its way to bite. Tarantula enthusiasts seek this spider out because of its amazingly beautiful coloring and relatively large size. Since it is so coveted the Brazilian Whiteknee does not come cheaply in most markets. Thus, if you are a collector, this spider will certainly be an attractive, majestic addition to your growing menagerie. The Brazilian Whiteknee may hide from you for a while, but after it gets used to you, it may come out more often for viewing. It will not hesitate to shoot hairs, so be very, very careful when feeding and refilling it?s water dish. Regardless, if you can keep this spider healthy, it will provide years of enjoyment for you and those viewing your collection.

An absolutely magnificent example of the species, the Brazilian Whiteknee is most often kept in collections for viewing purposes and it is easy to see why. The Brazilian Whiteknee is a large spider, at nearly 6 inches long in some cases and with a leg span rumored to reach 7 to 9 inches. It is a near pitch black in color, with beautiful white stripes that circle the legs and torso.

This species of tarantula is native to Brazil, as the name suggests. This spider goes by many different names. Some of the variations include the Brazilian Black and White Stripe Birdeater, Brazilian White Banded Bird Eating Tarantula and the White Knee Tarantula.
