The Pixie Bob is not widely recognized at this time, but it is gaining acceptance and was officially recognized by TICA in 1994. In spite of its lack of recognition the Pixie Bob may have been in existence for centuries. There is much debate over its origins. Some state that it is a hybrid from the North American Bobcat and that such breeding began with the first immigrants from Europe. Others maintain that the Pixie Bob is a new breed started by Carol Ann Brewer in Washington. Whichever is true, it is a fact that today's Pixie Bob has been being developed to the modern standards since 1985, begun by breeder Carol Ann Brewer. Carol Brewer's lines stem from the mating of a Coastal Red Bobcat and a polydactyl (many toed) short tailed cat. The progeny of this union were thusly named, 'Legend Cats'. It is from these Legend Cats, that Carol Brewer began her breeding program. Today's Pixie Bob descends from these Legend Cats not Bobcats.

The Pixie Bob is a highly intelligent creature. Its ability to learn is almost unsurpassed in the feline community. This cat is even easy to train on a leash and harness. Like most dogs, this cat not only loves to be walked on a leash, they also get great excitement from car trips anywhere. Also similar to dogs, they are very loyal and devoted. They will bestow much love and affection on their family. They are also very gentle and patient with children. The Pixie Bob can tolerate mishandling from children without loosing its temper. This cat will bond closely with a family or individual for life, their loyalty is quite remarkable. The average Pixie Bob will suffer greatly if it is detached from his family after the age of one or two. The Pixie Bob is a relatively quiet breed, only chirping and chittering occasionally. If you are lucky you might even hear its rare throaty meow. Most of the time when a Pixie Bob speaks it is during play. Playtime is something that the Pixie Bob loves. This cat can be easily trained to play fetch, and many will not even need training, they learn this game all on their own. They are an enthusiastic breed possessing much energy and zest for life. They will never leave you bored, as the Pixie Bob is a born entertainer. It must be noted, that while the Pixie Bob is an active and busy breed, they should never be considered hyperactive. Unlike some other breeds the Pixie Bob is very good about using its litter box. This breed makes a good house or apartment pet, as they are non-destructive to both your furniture and your home. In addition to their love of people the Pixie Bob also lives quite well with other pets.

Resembling the bobcat in appearance, this feline is stunning. They maintain a wild appearance, but exhibit a domestic cat's personality. They are a true cat fanciers dream, maintaining the allure and grace of a wildcat, while still being domesticated enough to make a suitable pet for any home. The Pixie Bob is a larger breed, with adult males ranging from 14-26 pounds and females a bit smaller, usually 10-12 pounds. The males are also noticeably more muscular than the females. The Pixie Bob will not reach its mature size until the age of three or four. The mature Pixie Bob is characterized by a muscular body, which is framed with heavy and solid bone structure, loose skin with a primordial pouch. They have very short tails that generally range in length from one to six inches. Their coat is wooly and short most of the year, growing to medium length seasonally. The coat pattern of the Pixie Bob is also similar to the bobcat, possessing random spotting with rosettes and broken bars, which are often muted with heavy ticking. The colors typically stay within a range of tan to light fawn, brown, rusty red or golden color. Their facial appearance is very close to that of the typical Bobcat.
