Animal Description: Breed Standard

If you are a quiet person looking for a quiet, charming, affectionate friend, who is equally quiet, the Si-Rex might be the perfect pet for you. This striking breed is a delightful crossing of the Siamese and the Cornish Rex.

The Si-Rex, also know as the Pointed Devon or Devon Si-Rex, is an intelligent cat, who prefers nothing over curling up in the lap of is owner. A tranquil being, this lovely creature is well suited to family life.

He is a small cat, with a slender body similar to that of its Oriental ancestor the Siamese. Long is a very good way to describe his body type. In addition to a long body, is tail and legs are also long. The Si-Rex's head is triangular with two beautiful, round, blue eyes, the coloring of which is very characteristic of the Siamese. His nose is long and straight ending in a rather pointed muzzle. His mischievous face has been described by some as 'pixie like' and is most unusual. Like the Cornish Rex, the Si-Rex has a very curly coat. Its coat is particularly soft, silky and fine because it is formed only from down hairs. His coat is quite unusual because it lacks awn hairs, leaving him unprotected against the rays of the sun; thus, he is very susceptible to serious sunburns. For this reason, the Si Rex is not at all suited for outdoor life and must be kept as an indoor pet. The unusual coat of the Si Rex is great for those with cat allergies. He is a non-shedding cat! In addition to the already remarkable and beautiful features mentioned above, the coat of the Si Rex is often graced with the striking points of the Siamese. He is sometimes described as having the coloring of the Tonkinese.

It took many years for the Si Rex to be recognized by registries as a distinct breed. While not recognized by all registries, it is starting to gain recognition. In addition to crossing the Siamese and Cornish Rex, some European breeders are also introducing Burmese into the lines.
