The Dutch Rex, also known as the Wirehair Rex, is a relatively new breed of Rex cat. The Dutch Rex is also called the Wirehair Rex, because unlike other Rex breeds his coat has a bristly feel to it when touched. Its coarser, wavy coat is significantly different than the more commonly known Rex breeds, like the Cornish and Devon Rex. The Dutch Rex was first bred in 1985. It originates in Holland where it was first observed. Not yet widely known or recognized, the Dutch Rex remains among several other new breeds waiting to break into popularity among today's cat fanciers. |
